The town of Naivasha.. feels like the wild west

Captured mid-bite

this lone tent sits on the outskirts of the Pipeline IDP camp because the household does not own a plot of pipeline land. they did not recieve 10,000 shillings from the government and so they were left out of the buy-in scheme. some claim they were not IDPs and are just trying to get the govt to give them money. possible... but at this point, even if they are not post-election IDPs, they are living in a tent, on an airstrip, and i see no reason why their government should not look out for their well-being. the government, red cross and ngos have been incredibly focused on this issue of "fake" IDPs, but so what if they were displaced by extreme poverty? is that less worthy? why focus energy on weeding out the "genuine" IDPs? perhaps it is because the government has no more money for IDPs and so they are making excuses for their inability to provide 10,000 ksh to everyone? just a speculation..
