pics from pipeline and a special shot

the line between research and standing by to unbelievable human suffering is getting pretty scary. its amazing how much hope these IDPs have, but the needs in this camp are unreal. besides the fact that there is no food here- making food a pressing need- people are also hoping to get linked up with a microfinance or softloans program so that they can start their lives again. many owned businesses before the violence and lost everything-- leaving them now without the capital to start up again. as for shelter, they live in tents that were donated by UNHCR in january of 08. they are ripped. the rains are starting. i could go on-- they need medicine. theres a high HIV+ population -- many of whom were raped in the original IDP camps. in spite of the thousands upon thousands of registered NGOs in Kenya-- NONE are working here in Pipeline except for one that brings short term, mostly unskilled, volunteers to africa where they can play with children and teach english. nothing against those volunteers-- but im just wondering why more isnt happening...

MIGHTY MEATY!
i passed this sign too many times without snapping a pic.. I think Farmers Choice has great photographic potential
