Things have gotten off to a slow start thus far but we’ve had our share of excitement—the kind that could only happen in a place like Runda. Today the roof caved in. Now, rooves cave in everywhere, but this one caved because someone had come to help set us up with running water and had installed a huge tank in the attic level/ceiling of the house. We didn’t know at the time, but this tank had a hole in it. As it started to rain, and then storm down from the ceiling above my bunkbed in the bubblegum pink room, we realized we had a problem. And then the whole thing came down.
The roof cave-in has come on the heels of a few other notable moments. For instance, on our first night here, one of us hit the “panic button” which looks like a light switch in the kitchen. Needless to say, a whole crew of armed security guards showed up at our front door ready to taken on the intruders. Don’t worry mom and dad, there weren’t any.
There was also the issue of Mzee Kobe’s (our pet tortoise’s) poop. It was so impressively large that we thought we had a wild animal on our hands. Or at least within our gated property. But then we found out it was just the mzee.
Besides that we’ve really just floated from one bureacratic stand-still to another, meeting heads of archives and directors of museum’s along the way. Tomorrow we will begin (with or without special permission) at the archives.
Love from Runda,
Megs

Megs, there is legit nothing more menacing than polepole mzee poop. Please do keep us posted on developments.
(Also, your blog is awesome, looking forward to the latest round of inspiration.)
